Mercury in the Signs

Mercury may not be given the place of honor it deserves. We get lost in the glamor of Venus, the passion of Mars and the deep feelings of the Moon. Mercury is very important, too. We will discuss it here. Later, I will do an article about Mercury in the Houses.
For now, let’s see how Mercury operates in the signs.

Aries

This native may be very competitive. He may be someone who ACTS first and thinks later, not the best trait. However, he may be blessed with confidence and courage in his own opinions.

Taurus

His thinking may be on the slow side. I do not mean “slow” in the sense of a low IQ. I mean it in the sense of weighing options and making wise choices. Taurus is a grounded and centered sign. His opinions are likely well considered before he opens his mouth. He may be the least likely sign to speak first and repent later.

Gemini

This is mine. It is a good placement because Mercury is in its home. Mercury in Gemini is known for his wit. He is, likely, an avid reader. His mind absorbs ideas quickly. He is the proverbial jack of all trades intellectually. He knows a little about most things.

Cancer

This Mercury seems rather rare. I don’t know if this is the case or if my clients do not have it. However, Mercury in Cancer would be someone who thinks very deeply about his home and family. His interests are, likely, ones that revolve around home and hearth, such as cooking, home decorating and parenting. Anything Cancer is very loyal, so he will, likely, be a loyal person.

Leo

Leo Mercury may love to show off his intellect. He may be attracted to the
theater, a place in which he can shine. He can charm others with his childlike and affectionate nature, which he is able to communicate quite well, most likely.

Virgo

Virgo Mercury may pay too much attention to detail. The native is, likely, intelligent, but the inordinate attention to detail may be a burden. This Mercury likes to create order. He may be an excellent accountant or secretary. He can handle details effortlessly, or he makes it look so.

Libra

Libra in any placement, except Venus, may be very indecisive. Hence, the Mercury Libra may have a very hard time making a decision. I am a Libra Ascendant and I can get frozen in indecision, too, so my heart goes out to the Libra Mercury, who has a bigger dose of Libra. On the plus side, their manner of communication may be charming and refined.

Scorpio

Scorpio Mercury could be said to be the “darkest” Mercury. This native may be attracted to any number of dark subjects from detective novels to true crime. He, likely, has an investigative mind, which would make a career like a detective a very good fit. He is a natural investigator, so if he lose your keys, call him.

Sagittarius

This is the Detriment position for Mercury. I am not sure why, other than that this Mercury may rather be out throwing a football than reading. He may want to EXPERIENCE life, rather than think about it.

Capricorn

This native will, likely, be driven for success. He will, likely, be able to set long term goals and meet them “inch by inch”. If he starts out at night school, before too long he will be in law school.

Aquarius

Mercury in Aquarius may be drawn to causes. He thinks more in a global way than in a personal way. He may feel more connected to people far away than his own intimates. He would be the perfect reformer because his mind does not adhere to existing structures, societal or otherwise.

Pisces

People can give Pisces Mercury a bad rap because Pisces is a nonlinear sign. Pisces is poetic and imaginative, as well as creative. Pisces Mercuries are quick to remind us that Einstein was a Pisces Mercury. Case closed.

“Aries. This native may be very competitive”.
Ami, do you notice that he also has a hard time lying? Those Mercuries in Aries I know, prefer telling the truth, as, according to them, they are clumsy, forgetful liars (who are, therefore, always caught). Wondering whether these are particular cases or the general rule.

“Taurus Mercury. His thinking may be on the slow side. I do not mean “slow” in the sense of a low IQ. I mean it in the sense of weighing options and making wise choices”.

Respect and love to this placement. To my Mercury in Libra, these people are natural-born gurus. They manage to explain even quantum physics in the most comprehensible way possible, with simple words. And never look down on anyone.

“Mercury in Gemini is known for his wit. He is, likely, an avid reader”
Striking to me. Instantly recognisable by his wit and original, tasteful choice of words. Fascinating, as lightning-quick to find his way out of any trap. Intelligent, and, therefore, sexy.

“Cancer. This Mercury seems rather rare. I don’t know if this is the case or if my clients do not have it”.
Probably, the second option. Long ago introduced a Cancer Mercury to online discussion boards. He was scandalized. “Me?! Posting my PERSONAL concerns for STRANGERS to read?!”. A quarter of an hour later he was still lecturing on how nuts the participants were.

“Virgo Mercury may pay too much attention to detail. The native is, likely, intelligent, but the inordinate attention to detail may be a burden”
Enjoy working with these logic folks, who never miss a thing, have all the answers and give clear instructions.

“Mercury Libra may have a very hard time making a decision.”

In my case, “… as he wants to be sure not to hurt/disappoint anyone whose opinion really matters”.
I instantly make up my mind. Must be the cardinal nature of Libra, and Mercury sextile Uranus. However, if I like the person, I give my decision a second thought, to be sure we both win. Must be coming from my Mercury trine Moon/the ASC/the MC. “If I feel sympathy for you, I want to get in good with you”.
However, if I don’t care or don’t appreciate the person, it is my way or the highway. This, I guess, comes from my Mercury square Mars, which is ruthless.

“Sagittarius. This is the Detriment position for Mercury. I am not sure why, other than that this Mercury may rather be out throwing a football than reading. He may want to EXPERIENCE life, rather than think about it”.
So this is why they are die-hard optimists with a peculiar logic!.. A weekend, somewhere in time. Saggy Mercuries:
    – Let’s build a new fence, shall we? We go buy some wood.
Me: What is the surface? How much wood do you need?
    – Relax, the X quantity will be just right.
Back in the yard, they start working. Soon it comes out that the X quantity can’t be further from truth. So they drive back to the shop. Multiple times. We are halfway through the fence, when suddenly Saggy Mercuries decide that they want a new wicket. They instantly drive back to the shop and buy the wicket AND the paint.
    – Here’s the paint! Let’s start painting!
The fence is not even completely up, the wicket is not installed yet, but they are already painting… and, halfway through, realize that red would be better than the blue color they have chosen. They abandon, drive back to the shop, return with the red paint… and suddenly remember that tonight they throw a party and so they should be in the kitchen, preparing the canapés…

“Capricorn. This native will, likely, be driven for success”
Besides, he resembles Clark Kent. Not always there when you want him, but always there when you need him.

“Mercury in Aquarius may be drawn to causes. He thinks more in a global way than in a personal way”
That is why he is a journalist, not a writer.

“Pisces Mercuries are quick to remind us that Einstein was a Pisces Mercury”.
True, Einstein was one of a kind.
Others somehow always manage to make people believe, too. Their speech may lack logic, beauty, harmony, grammar, but you can’t help buying into it. A marketing counsel with this placement once revealed to me, “Don’t know why, but people take seriously any rubbish I say”.

    Glad, Ami!
So? Do your clients with Mercury in Aries lie often? Or are they mostly honest and straightforward? As you see their charts, you know that charts never lie, while people do.
