I think the worst thing someone can say to someone who was abused is ” Forget about the past. Move on”. I understand that people who have not been abused do not understand HOW abuse stays with you, in every pore, almost, in every cell. You want to overcome it, but how? You have cemented yourself, in certain ways, in order to survive. You can’t just pull the bricks down and emerge, anew.
How do you get over it? I think it is very slow, first of all, so slow that it is almost imperceptible. I think crying is the main way. I think knowing that God will love you, if no one else does, is another.
Yes, people are so easy in saying “don’t think about it” “get over it” etc…It seems that they want no part of it….and definetely do not want to hear about it.
