Three dear people from Linda-Goodman.com asked me to look at their Yods. Yods take a great deal of time and concentration, so I thought I would write an article that would meet their needs and help people figure out their own Yods. To figure out a Yod, you need a basic understanding of Astrology. You won’t be able to figure out Yods if you do not understand aspects such as conjunction, trine, square, opposition, sextile and quincunx. You won’t understand Yods if you do not know the meaning of Houses. This is the problem I have when someone asks me to look at their Yod. First of all, it takes time as you will see. It is detailed, as you will see. However, if the person has no understanding of Astrology, I must go back many steps from here and explain what I listed above. I do this with my professional clients but can’t do it in another setting.. I hope these articles help you to understand your own Yods. The Yod is the Finger of God. Hence, it is very important to explore for each person fortunate enough to have one.
You really need the time of birth to do a Yod properly. The time of birth would give Houses. Houses show the practical areas of life in which issues play out. If one did not have a birth time, one could still do the Yod. The foundation of the “building” would still be there but it would not be decorated. It would be bare bones. In Anna’s case, I have the time so we can tell in which life areas her Yod would play out.
Anna has a lovely Yod. A Yod has a focus on 3 planets. They form a triangle. The first planets is Cancer Venus at 28 cancer in the 7th house. The second planet is Moon in Capricorn in the first house. The third planet is Saturn in Aqua in the second House. As I say this, I hope the House system is accurate as planets can change houses in different house systems. However, we can’t worry about that now as we will do our best with the house sysytem given. IF the Yod does not fit, the House system is off. Know that for the future. That axiom fits in all situations in all charts. If the person does not match his chart, the House system is wrong.
However, we want to move along to the Yod. For the Yod, we want to analyze each of the three planets on it’s own. What does it say about the person? What does the House do to give us information on the person? We will start with Venus. Venus is at the apex of the Yod. the apex is the star of the show. Know this when you do the Yods. Your focal point is the apex. The other planets are supporting actors. The star of the show is the apex. The planet that needs to go out in the world and strut it’s stuff is the apex planet.
Let’s look at Anna’s Venus. It is Cancer Venus at 28 degrees in the 7th house. We have a wealth of information in that one planet. We know that Anna values marriage highly. We know that she values home and family highly. Her Venus is in the Scorpio decan. This tells us that she has a Scorpio overlay to her Venus. She can be intense when she is in love. She is loyal and she is deep. Don’t play with her emotions or you will live to regret it. Scorpio is the sign most likely to take revenge for betrayal. her Venus is in the Gemini duad. This makes an overlay of a Gemini Venus. Anna loves to have fun. She loves to play. She has a good wit. All that information comes to us from the one Venus placement. Can you form a picture of Anna yet? I think it is shaping up.
Next we will look at the second planet in the Yod–Moon in Capricorn at 0 degrees in the first house. Zero degrees is the strongest placement for any planet. 29 degrees is the weakest placement for any planet. Zero degrees is being next to a roaring fire with it’s warmth radiating. 29 degrees is sitting in the back of the room and trying to inch up in the crowd so you can feel the warmth. A first house Moon is a native who wears his heart on his sleeve.I like this Moon placement very much because what you see is what you get. I really cannot stand covert people. I like a person to show his stuff so you know what you are dealing with.( I am sure many people agree) A first House Moon will do this, whether he likes it or not. The same applies to a Moon conjunct the MC. That person will show his heart, whether he wants to or not. Neither position can be a covert person.
The third planet in the Yod is Saturn in Aquarius in the 2nd House. Saturn in the 2nd House is restrictions in material needs. This Saturn may have grown up poor. This Saturn may have grown up having to earn his own money at an early age. He may feel he has had to work hard for everything he has gotten. However, as is the case with Saturn, wisdom and maturity in the House in which Saturn resides will come with time and persistence. Hence, this native will become wise about the practical world.
I could do decans and duads for each planet but I will not due to the time involved. You can study Decans and Duads yourself and apply them to your Yod.
Now, we are ready to put the Yod together.
The apex of the Yod is the Cancer Venus in the 7th house. Anna wants to get married at the very core of herself. She would not be one for flings. She values all the traditions of marriage such as loyalty, devotion and one special person. Venus in the 7th House is a person who wants to be married as one of her important life goals and values. The Cancer Venus adds to this by a love of home and family. Hence, the apex tells us that this is one of her life purposes. Lets see how she will get there? What does she need to do? What does she need to overcome? In what ways does she need to transform? The quincunx is the aspect of transformation. One cannot sit still and twiddle one’s thumbs when one has a quincunx. One must get out there and RUN. lets see what Anna has to do.
The Yod involves two quincunx and a sextile. The quincunx are the aspects of transformation. The sextile is the gift. Let’s see how this works, in Anna’s case. Let’s look at the first quincunx. It is Venus quincunx the Moon. Venus is one’s love nature. The Moon is one’s emotions. Venus trine the Moon is an easy flow between one’s love nature and one’s emotions. To make it practica. a person with Venus trine the Moon can call up his emotions in the way he shows love. You will feel his emotions. He is connected to them. He is a very warm person and this shows. Venus trine Moon is the major charm aspect because he can make others feel special.
However, here we have the quincunx which shows us that Anna is not really in touch with her emotions, in an easy, harmoniously flowing way. It is a struggle for her. The quincunx is the aspect of struggle. However, the native can overcome it. That is the nature of the quincunx. I love the quincunx for this reason. The opposition and square can not really be overcome, in my opinion. One has to work around them. The quincunx was made to be overcome. From this one quincunx, we can see Anna’s struggle, in part. She needs to get more in touch with her heart. She needs to do this in order TO have a marriage and the kind of marriage she wants. This is one part of her struggle.
Lets go to the second quincunx. It is Saturn quincunx Venus. When Saturn touches Venus, we have a person who is serious about love. We do not have a person who does casual flings. If she does, it hurts her. She is not a natural player. She was not built this way. When Saturn touches Venus, the native may feel she has to be perfect in order to be loved. The main point to remember when you see Venus touch Saturn is that we have a person who values love, in a serious way.
Saturn quincunx Venus makes for a struggle not to take love so seriously. Love DOES involve play. Love does involve personal risk of looking silly and getting hurt. One must be able to do this if one is to be loved. The person with Saturn touching Venus does not want to be hurt and so holds back. In this case, the person had to mature early in the material world. She is serious about practical life. She does not have her head in the clouds about the practical world. She has to take this side of her and blend it with what is needed to make a marriage good. What is needed is intimacy. This quincunx shows that the native will have a hard time opening her heart to another person. She will have to fight her own demons of having to appear perfect.
Lets go onto the sextile as the sextile is the gift in the Yod. The sextile is the engine from which Anna can make the Yod work. The sextile is between the Moon and Saturn. Again, we look at House, too. Anna wears her heart on her sleeve. She is serious about the practical world. The sextile shows us that she can put her heart together with her ability to conquer and transform her material world. This is a practical gift. However, the sextile has to be dug up, a bit, as opposed to the trine which is a free, effortless gift.
Lets put it all together in a practical way. Anna values marriage. She cares about traditional values such as loyalty, devotion and a special man for life. However, she is too hard on herself. She expects herself to be perfect in relationships. She may think she needs to be the perfect wife or partner. She needs to learn that she can bring her gifts, such as they are( and this is the same for all of us) and that it is OK not to be perfect.
She has to let herself really get in contact with her heart. It is hard but she can do it. She needs to form an intimacy with herself before she can have one with a partner. This is true for all of us but more so for her, with the Yod.
That is my take on this Yod. Any comments?
Thank you. How sweet!
